"I have enjoyed working with Reading Partners over the last several years.  The students are highly motivated to attend their sessions because they receive one-on-one attention with an adult with whom they have formed a positive relationship.   Last year, our students in Reading Partners improved their scores on their i-Ready assessments by an average of 22 points.  This growth was one of the highest of all of the intervention groups." -Kathy Benton, MEd NBCT, Intervention Specialist at Furman L. Templeton

The reason why Michael chose to serve a year with Reading Partners is because he wants to give back to the community through service.

Meet the Reading Partners team

Amber Ware

Senior Literacy Lead
Hello everyone!  I am excited to be serving yet a second year with Reading Partners!  I am even more excited to be working at Furman L. Templeton again.  It has been a pleasure working with the lovely kids and friendly staff at this school.  I also really love the fact that I am working to make a difference in the lives of so many children.

Alexis Bond

Regional Site Coordinator
After serving my first AmeriCorps term with Reading Partners Baltimore as a Site Coordinator, I'm very happy to be able to help more of the city this year as a Regional Site Coordinator.  I will be travelling between 5 of our Reading Partners schools in order to support the Site Coordinators, Literacy Leads, and our volunteer tutors.  While you might not see me every time you are in the center, know that when I'm here, I'm here to help!  After receiving a BA in English from Haverford College in Pennsylvania, and an MA in Medieval Literature from the University of York, in the UK, I knew I needed to come back to my hometown of Baltimore.  I'm glad to have found Reading Partners and proud to work with such passionate individuals as we strive to get our students reading proficiently for 4th grade and beyond.

Kendra Padilla

Program Manager
An avid reader as a child, Kendra brought her love of reading to teaching students in a variety of educational settings for over 10 years before joining Reading Partners. Most recently, Kendra spent five years teaching third grade in Baltimore City at an Expeditionary Learning charter school, working as a literacy lead for three yeras. She has an extensive experience designing curriculum that incorporates literacy skills into science and social studies lessons in project-based learning environments. As a former AmeriCorps member with Citizen Schools, Kendra is passionate about bringing community volunteers into schools. Kendra earned her bachlelor's degree in psychology from Williams College and then earned her master's degree in education from Lesley University.
